Marseille is a French city with around 919,000 inhabitants and the capital of the Bouches-du-Rhône department and is located in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region. The location of the city means sun, sand and sea for tourists who come here on summer vacation. Because the French port city is located on the Golfe du Lion, a Mediterranean bay, and is therefore ideally suited for a summer holiday in France. After the capital, this city on the Mediterranean is the second largest French city, which, in addition to a historic city center, also has large natural areas that are mainly characterized by mountains. The city borders the Mediterranean Sea in the western area, while in the north it borders on the Chaîne de l’Estaque and Chaîne de l’Etoile mountains.

If you want to enjoy the beaches by the sea in Marseille, you can look forward to the Mediterranean climate – that means a lot of sun. In addition, the region has little rainfall. However, strong winds often prevail in this part of France, the mistral. That makes the climate here on the French Mediterranean coast a bit rough. The city is considered France’s “Gateway to the Mediterranean”.
