Nice offers cozy restaurants and well-attended nightlife spots for foreigners

Nice in France offers numerous cozy restaurants and nightlife spots for all budgets for foreigners who stay in this city for a while. No matter whether traditional or exotic cuisine, every gourmet will surely find something suitable here.

Le Chantecler

The magnificent decor and woodwork from 1751 immediately impress foreigners visiting Nice in France. On the streets of the Anglais there is a two-star restaurant in the legendary Palace of the Riviera. The “surprise” menu from Chef Virginie Basselot seduces with its perfect combination of tasty dishes such as scallops with celery and green apples, pomegranate foie gras and hibiscus blossom or hearty honey pear, creating an idyllic culinary refuge for gourmets.

O’Quotidien

Just a stone’s throw from the harbor, in the Bonaparte district, the coolest grocery store in town is the right place for healthy food. The dishes are market-oriented and celebrate fruits and vegetables as they should be, from Arancinis pumpkin with mozzarella to Risotto Verde with purple artichoke cream and spinach with roasted nutmeg and cheese. Apples filled with cashew nuts are a must for dessert.

La Part des Anges

The very first dining cellar in Nice, opened in 1988, deserves its place in this selection. From young winemakers to the great classics, the good bottles excavated by Olivier Labarde could be combined with special dishes. The recipes such as pacchieri with anchovies and broccoli, razor clams with parsley, ravioli with chanterelles are a great tribute to the bistro culture. Among the 300 references of the wine cellar, the bottle of Chablis de Moors (2015) is highly recommended.

Le Bistrot d’Antoine

If you are looking for a good restaurant that serves local cuisine at low prices, you should visit Le Bistrot d’Antoine. With Armand and Sophie Crespo at the helm, who already run two other restaurants in the city, the address has the charm of Mediterranean restaurants. A la carte you will find dishes that meat lovers will love, such as roasted foie gras, black pudding or duck breast. Le Bistrot d’Antoine is an interesting culinary discovery.

Le Lavomatique

With Hugo and Grégoire Loubert, two brothers who are enthusiastic about bistro culture, this former laundromat is now a wonderful tapas bar with French influences. Here you will find a seasonal menu. Delicious dishes like roasted pumpkin with spaghetti and bell pepper or smoked leek can be enjoyed with a glass of organic wine. Mélanie Tuz has come up with a selection of gourmet desserts, such as a pear tart, ginger whipped cream or a candied ginger biscuit.

La Merenda

In order to try Dominique Le Stanc’s famous pesto pasta, foreigners have to get lost in the alleyways of Old Nice to find the small restaurant La Merenda without a phone number or credit card machine. The place is tiny and you have to dine on small stools alongside other visitors. However, the food is so good that regular guests don’t leave this real temple of Nice’s cuisine.

Jan

The star-marked table by Jan Hendrik van der Westhuizen (24 seats) looks like a villa from the 18th century. The decor with stone arcades, candelabras on the tables and wicker seats creates a sensual atmosphere that will surely delight couples. During a candlelit dinner, gourmets can enjoy wild wolf fish, carrots and quinces. It is certainly recommended to try one of the numerous African wines.

Maïdo

This place brings a piece of Japan into the city. Matthieu and Kanako have made Maïdo the best canteen in Nice, with traditional dishes from the land of the rising sun. The menu does not include sushi, but a homemade don buta kimchi, mini okonomiyaki pancakes, lotus roots in tempura or a salmon chirashi with edible flowers. A favorite for ultra-gourmet dessert lovers is a cherry blossom cake with strawberries and matcha cream.
