For five days, we booked a city break for two in the metropolis of London. Sightseeing, delicious food and cultural life were on the program for us and couldn’t wait to get on the plane.
With the London Underground to every destination
After almost an hour’s flight we landed in London and headed towards the tourist center to get various tickets and travel cards for the underground, called “Underground” in London. One thing was immediately clear to us, without the subway, the big sightseeing program that we had planned would not be possible. We were thrilled with the first use of the subway. A nationwide network with which we could reach each of our destinations in London quickly and easily. The London Underground is a sight in itself, after all, it is the oldest underground in the world.
Countless sights
During our first walk through central London, we were impressed by the interplay between historic buildings from the Middle Ages and modern architecture in a small space. On the left side of the street we looked at a medieval building, looked to the right and saw modern skyscrapers. It was worth exploring selected and nearby destinations on foot. London has over 300 museums, the travel guide had told us. The choice was not easy. We chose a colorful mix of sights, with the classics such as the Tower of London and Buckingham Palace not to be missed. The free entry to the state museums is great. We can say without a doubt that there is a suitable museum for every taste. The smaller and well-hidden museums have swept us away because they are furnished and operated with great attention to detail. The operators often spoke spontaneously without sticking to fixed lead times. This individual support had particular charm for us individual travelers.
Multi cultural London
In addition to many sights, we got to know the diverse cultural scene. There is definitely no shortage of bars and clubs in London. It is advisable to ask the locals on site what is currently popular. Recommendations from London residents are worth their weight in gold and brought us to various pubs with locals who are generally open to tourists and strangers. We met students from India and China, tourist groups from Japan and city travelers who were traveling around the city in small groups from all over Europe. Influences of all kinds of nationalities pelted us, because the world metropolis is one of the most multicultural cities in the world. The great variety has run through the culinary side of London. There is almost every kitchen in the world in London, scattered all over the city. Typical English fish and chips was a must for us. We decided not to visit the same restaurant twice in order to test as many different locations as possible. This approach was a good decision, in addition to fish and chips, we enjoyed excellent Asian cuisine in the four-star restaurant, dined with an excellent view in a pleasure boat and puzzled over unknown dishes in the African restaurant. We enjoyed experimenting and came at our expense in culinary terms.
Find peace in London
We were thrilled and carried away by the hustle and bustle in London. After three days of the sightseeing marathon our strength was exhausted. Since we didn’t want to miss anything and had two days to go, we aimed for our next destination and visited one of the two big parks in London. Green nature, beautifully landscaped lakes and squirrels accustomed to humans offer the perfect place to take a short break and recharge your batteries.
London? Anytime again!
After five days we can say that London had only positive experiences ready for us. No matter if sightseeing, the food, the cultural offer or the people in London, our expectations were exceeded in every respect. It is clear to us that this is not the last time we have visited London.
