Calgary, the largest city in the Canadian province of Alberta, is not only located at the confluence of the Elbow River and the Bow River, but also not far from the first foothills of the Rocky Mountains. A trip to the south of the province of Alberta is therefore also a true adventure trip for many foreigners, which brings them very close to the Wild West.
Transitional region to the Rocky Mountains
The urban area of Calgary itself is slightly hilly, as it already belongs to the eastern foothills of the Foothills, the transition region to the Rocky Mountains. Immediately behind the city limits – where the Foothills begin – begins a wide prairie landscape that stimulates the imagination of many a Canada vacationer. For example, motorcycle tours can be undertaken through the prairie – off-road and on-road. On-road, the Alberta Highway is used for this.
Explore on horseback
The region south of the largest city in the Canadian province of Alberta can be explored on horseback. Due to the rural region, the Bow River, the Sheep River and the Highwood River, every foreigner can feel on his adventure trip as if he were roaming this historic region as a cowboy. A railway line also runs through the region. The adventure trail can also lead through the Brown-Lowery Provincial Park and the Bragg Creek Provincial Park, two of the provincial parks in Alberta. There is also a reserve in the Foothills.
