If you want to go on holiday in France, Paris should not be missing here as a city. After all, it is also the capital of France. The city consists of around 75 departments and is home to around 2.1 million residents. As a holidaymaker, of course, I’m particularly interested in the sights that the city has to offer. The fact that this is the case is demonstrated by the number of tourists that move in every year. Around 16 million people come here every year.
From high up to art lovers
A sight that you can see from afar and that must be part of every visit is the Eiffel Tower. No building stands for this country like the Eiffel Tower in Paris. With a height of 324 m, the Eiffel Tower is very impressive, as is the entire park area around it. If you want to see the city and the surrounding area in particular, you can also visit the supervisory platform from the Eiffel Tower. Here you not only get a good overview, but also a restaurant with typical dishes. Another must-see on the list of sights is the Louvre. The Louvre used to be a fortification, but also the residence of the royal family. A special feature that is located in the courtyard of the Louvre is the glass pyramid. Today the Louvre is a museum because it is home to a variety of impressive paintings and sculptures. For tourists who love art in particular, the Louvre should not be missing when visiting. Because you can experience history here. For lovers of culture, there is also a visit to the Comédie-Française, a famous theater. Or the Opéra Garnier, the Petit Palais as a museum or the Musée national du Moyenge. Here you will not find interesting plays that often deal with the history of France, but the buildings themselves are also worth seeing. Some of which can look back on hundreds of years of history. In addition to these well-known cultural facilities, there are many other smaller theaters and museums where a visit to your vacation can be worthwhile.
Experience the national pride of the French
In 2019, images went around the world, showing that the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral was on fire. Large parts of the roof were destroyed and the cathedral Notre-Dame, is currently under reconstruction. As before the fire, you certainly cannot visit the cathedral, but the exterior of this very old Gothic church is also worthwhile. As a tourist, you will also witness how the cathedral is rebuilt. Another must-see is the Arc de Triomphe de l’Étoile, the national symbol of this proud nation. This is not only a place steeped in history, but is also an integral part every year when it comes to parades. Especially in the city center, you will find a variety of other sights. Even simple buildings such as the Pont des Invalides, where there is a bridge, are worth seeing on a vacation due to their construction and age. From the Pont des Invalides you also have a good view of the Seine. A stroll along the Seine is particularly recommended in the evenings. Alone because a large number of buildings, as well as the bridges, are then illuminated and have a very special flair.
Don’t just pay attention to the sights
When you visit France and Paris in particular, the sights are one thing. But there is also something else that stands out, namely the attitude to life, the food. And where can you best experience that, for example in one of the typical cafes and restaurants. There is no shortage of them either.
