A few months ago I had a wonderful holiday in one of the most beautiful cities in England – Bristol. I will now tell you which sights are to be found and what else is particularly in the focus of the city in the west of England.
Travel – hotels, infrastructure and gastronomy
Hotels are easy to find, but a lot can be found in the central area of the city near Castle Park. From there, the connection to the means of transport, which can be of great importance in a city trip, is easy. There the first and so far the only means of transport is powered by solar power – the tram. In the area of gastronomy there is something for every taste. The countless restaurants are spread all over the city and can be found and tried out on a holiday.
Sights – art, culture and much more
A holiday in a city in England also means a cultural trip. The beautiful Bristol Cathedral and the Wills Memorial Building are not only a real beauty on the outside, but also have a special place in the history of the city, because the cathedral in the west of the city has existed since 1140. The Wills Memorial Building is part of the University of Bristol, named after George Alfred Wills and Henry Herbert Wills. The Clifton Suspension Bridge is a suspension bridge that crosses the Avon at a height of 75 meters. It was built by Isambard Kingdom Brunel. If you pay close attention, you can find some works by the well-known graffiti artist Banksy, but also by many other street art artists. The suburb of Clifton is always worth a visit because the many Gothic buildings surround the Clifton Suspension Bridge, from which you can enjoy a wonderful view.
he port is also a landmark, which has a very long history. The SS Great Britain is the first steamship to cross the Atlantic and is therefore also worth a visit. You can visit them in the harbor.
With around 400 parks, this city has been the “Green Capital of Europe” since 2015 and offers nature lovers a great opportunity to relax on the trip. The Old Vic is the theater in Bristol. It has been a popular theater for 254 years, so you should look out for tickets early enough. A very impressive event is the Balloon Festival in August, in which around 100 hot air balloons take off. A unique opportunity to admire the city from the air is also possible. Of course, other festivals worth seeing are held here throughout the year. Another insider tip are the many bars and the nightlife. Anyone traveling the city should definitely try gin and listen to good live music in a pub. You won’t get such a beautiful experience again so quickly. Nicholas Market, a Georgian market in the heart of the city. It attracts a huge amount of people and should not be missing on your trip.
Exploration tours – air, water, earth
The city divided by the Avon in England can be explored in many different ways. Sail idyllically on the Avon, hike with the balloon through the air or on the Banksy trail. All this is possible and offers the traveler different perspectives on the city.
A boat tour over the Avon is not only idyllic, but also informative, because the maritime history goes back a long way. Even in the Middle Ages, the port was the most important trading port of the Templar order. Today the port is an important tourist attraction, which is particularly attractive due to the many bars, galleries and restaurants.
There are various street art tours through the city of street artist Banksy. Almost 150 street artists demonstrate their art on house facades and other locations. As already mentioned, balloon tours are a real highlight at the balloon festival in August. The fantastic view over Bristol is absolutely priceless and will always be remembered.
All the sights and leisure activities offered in the “green capital of Europe” attract countless holidaymakers every year. The English weather can be quickly forgotten here.
